The modern day Tuscarora Band of Six Nations Indians is a true democracy whose constitution was established since time immemorial and existed throughout the test of time with our inherent Tribal Sovereignty and our tribal stories of Creation. The current Tuscarora Band’s constitution provides for a multi-branch Tribal Government that is comprised of elected executive officials who serve as the governing body as the Tuscarora Band of Six Nations Indians' Tribal Council. Our way of life is surrounded by traditional values in "Keeping A Good Mind, A Good Heart, A Strong Fire -Wahstetsi?sli yó kék, and We thank the Creator for all Blessings.
Historically, after the Tuscarora War ended in North Carolina, the Tuscarora Nation were adopted in 1722 by the Oneida Nation in New York. The tribal ancestors of this Tuscarora Band of Six Nations Indians were the historic Treaty Signers with the United States Government and were federally acknowledged as Tuscarora Chiefs before Congress who were also identified as Tuscarora Chiefs with the Haudenosaunee Iroquois Confederacy known as the Six Nations. As a tribal democratic government, the Tuscarora pre-dates the United States Constitution. The Tuscarora were the largest First Nation in North Carolina which had many village bands and towns during colonial times.
In what is now called the State of North Carolina, the Tuscarora was in the successful evolution over time to gain primacy among their neighbors and survived in isolated tribal community settlements and reservations in North Carolina, New York, and Canada. The Tuscarora Band of Six Nations Indians are comprised of the North Carolina Tuscarora who remained and the Six Nations Tuscarora Indians. As one governing body in North Carolina, the Tuscarora Band of Six Nations Indians shall remain together as a First Nation on our ancestral Tuscarora lands.
Today, the Tuscarora Band of Six Nations Indians (Tuscarora Confederacy) operates with the location in North Carolina on the same lands our Iroquois ancestors historically occupied, while many of our Tuscarora relations also live in New York and Canada. Nyà:wę.
